Motorcycle engine overhaul in Singapore

An engine overhaul rebuilds a worn motorcycle engine back to proper running condition instead of replacing it. At BikeBoyzSG we do two levels: a top-end overhaul (head, valves, piston, rings — typically 3 to 5 working days) and a full overhaul that also opens the bottom end for crank, bearings and gearbox work (typically 5 to 10 working days). Every job starts with a teardown inspection and a written quote — we do not begin any repair until you approve the cost.

What an overhaul includes

  • Full teardown and photo-documented inspection of every internal component
  • Cylinder head service — valve seats, guides, seals and skimming where needed
  • Piston, rings, gudgeon pin and cylinder bore measurement against factory spec
  • Crankshaft, main bearings, big-end and gearbox inspection on full overhauls
  • All gaskets, oil seals and O-rings replaced with genuine or OEM-equivalent parts
  • Reassembly to manufacturer torque specs, fresh oil and filter
  • Post-build run-in check and road test before handover

Signs your engine needs one

  • Blue or white smoke from the exhaust, especially on start-up
  • Burning oil noticeably faster than it used to
  • Loss of power or poor compression — the bike feels flat uphill
  • Metallic knocking, rattling or ticking from the engine
  • Hard starting, or the engine turns over but will not fire
  • Overheating, or coolant and oil mixing
  • High mileage with no record of previous internal work
The process

How we handle an overhaul

  1. Drop off and first assessmentBring the bike to Kaki Bukit or WhatsApp us first. We ride it if it is rideable, listen to the engine, check compression and talk through the history.
  2. Teardown and inspectionThe engine comes out and comes apart. We measure bore, piston, valve seats and bearing clearances against factory tolerances rather than guessing.
  3. Written quote before any workYou get the findings and a full parts-and-labour quote. Nothing gets ordered or machined until you say yes. If it turns out an overhaul is not worth it, we tell you that too.
  4. Machining and partsHead skimming, valve seat cutting and reboring go to our trusted machinists. We source genuine or OEM-equivalent parts and show you the options at each price point.
  5. Rebuild to specReassembly to manufacturer torque and clearance specs, new gaskets and seals throughout, fresh oil and filter.
  6. Run-in, road test and handoverWe run the engine, check for leaks and heat, road test it, then walk you through what was replaced and the run-in schedule.

We quote rather than publish a price list, because the real figure depends on your model, what the teardown finds, and whether you choose genuine or OEM-equivalent parts. You always get a written quote before we start. For context, a motorcycle COE in Singapore cost $10,503 at the first August 2026 bidding, so a rebuild is usually far cheaper than replacing the bike.

Common questions

Engine overhaul FAQ

A standard top-end overhaul takes 3 to 5 working days. A full bottom-end rebuild takes 5 to 10 working days, depending on parts availability and the condition of the engine. We will give you a target date once the teardown is done.

A top-end overhaul covers everything above the crankcase: cylinder head, valves, piston, rings and cylinder bore. A full overhaul also splits the cases to reach the crankshaft, main bearings, big-end and gearbox. Most bikes only need the top end.

In Singapore, usually yes. A motorcycle COE was $10,503 at the first August 2026 bidding, and that is before the price of the bike itself. A top-end overhaul on a Class 2B bike typically costs a small fraction of that, so rebuilding a bike you already own and know is normally the cheaper decision.

Yes. We tear down, inspect and then send you a written parts-and-labour quote. No machining is booked and no parts are ordered until you approve it. If the honest answer is that the engine is not worth rebuilding, we will tell you.

We default to genuine or OEM-equivalent parts for anything internal. Where a good aftermarket option exists we will show you both prices and let you choose.

Yes — workmanship is covered. The exact terms depend on the job and the parts used, so ask us to put it in writing with your quote.
